Flute Foundations
This course is aimed at the flautist who already knows how to play the flute but who wants to improve on the basic foundations of their playing. These foundations include ornamentation, tone, intonation and breath. Tunes taught will be picked from the repertoire of common session tunes enabling the learning flautist to go to a local session and join in with confidence knowing that he/she will have tunes in common with other musicians. Each lesson will focus on a specific element of flute playing and appropriate exercises will be given. The taught technique will then be applied to the weeks tune.

This lesson will teach the reel, 'Rolling in the Ryegrass'. Kirsten continues from the sample lesson with her study of the 'cut'.
In this lesson Kirsten will teach the reel, 'Pig Town'. She will demonstrate an valuable exercise on how to improve lung capacity and tone.
The jig, 'The Connaught Man's Rambles' is featured in this lesson. The ornament 'the tap' is introduced.
This lesson will teach the jig, 'The Idle Road'. Kirsten will continue her study of 'the tap' by demonstrating how to tap the note of natural. She will also give an exercise to strengthen the low 'D' note.
The slip jig, 'A Fig for a Kiss' will be taught in this class. An exercise to strengthen tone and embouchure will be given.
This lesson will teach the jig, 'Coach Trip to Sligo'. The roll on the note of G will be introduced in this lesson.
In this lesson, the reel 'The Mourne Mountains' will be taught, also known as 'Tom Ward's Downfall'. Kirsten will demonstrate a physical warm up exercise to be used prior to practising.
This lesson will teach the jig, "The Rolling Wave". Kirsten will continue her study of the 'roll'.
In this lesson the hornpipe 'The Pride of Petravore' will be taught in E minor. Kirsten will introduce the ornament 'the slide'.
The Hornpipe 'Off to California' will be taught in this lesson. Kirsten will focus on melodic variation in this tune.
In this lesson the reel "The Swallow's Tail" will be taught. Kirsten's study of variation continues in this lesson.
In this lesson the reel "The Lass of Ballintra" will be taught. The lesson is broken down into 4 sections.
