Kirsten Allstaff: Biography

Online Irish flute tutor, Kirsten Allstaff

Kirsten AllstaffKirsten Allstaff is a traditional wooden flute and whistle player originally from Scotland. Shortly after graduating from the University of Glasgow where she completed an MA joint honours degree in Celtic Civilisations and Scottish History, she began working at the Northern Rhythms music college in Falcarragh, Donegal where she lectured on the history of Irish and Scottish traditional music. In 2002, she successfully completed her Masters in Traditional Irish Music Performance at University of Limerick, and subsequently began tutoring flute and whistle at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance. She also became involved in online lecturing initiatives at the University of Limerick and currently lectures on Traveller Music Studies through this web based initiative. Kirsten has played flute with a variety of internationally acclaimed Irish dance shows including Celtic Legends, Gaelforce and Rhythm of the Dance and has travelled throughout North America, Asia and Europe with these companies. She has also played at and taught workshops at numerous traditional music festivals in Ireland, Canada, Scotland and Finland. Kirsten's dedication to traditional flute playing and love of the music has earned her a reputation within Ireland and beyond as a fine flute tutor and an exceptional player. Currently she is working on her first solo album.
