B/C Accordion Foundations
This course is suitable for those who already have a basic understanding of the accordion. If you are familiar with the scales of C major, D major and G major, and already have a few tunes learnt in the Irish traditional style, then this is the course for you! Various types of tunes will be covered throughout the course: Polkas, Slides, Slip- Jigs, Jigs, Hornpipes and Reels- all of which are popular, well known, session tunes. The first half of Dáire's course also introduces basic ornamentation skills - cuts and grace-notes, triplets and rolls. The second half focuses on variation and how to subtly change the ornamentation and melody of the tune for melodic and rhythmic interest. His methods are firmly rooted in the traditional ways of teaching Irish music; he breaks up the tunes into short phrases that he plays repeatedly, prompting the student to play with him after listening once or twice to the phrase.
This lesson will teach the jig, 'My First Night in America' in the key of G major. Daire will continue from the free sample lesson in his study of the 'cut'. He will also introduce the triplet and show how it is best incorporated into the tune.
The hornpipe 'The Boys of Blue Hill' will feature in this lesson. The study of cuts and triplets will continue in this lesson.
This lesson will teach 'The Tulla Reel'. Dáire will continue his study of cuts and triplets.
In this lesson 'The Red Haired Lass' reel will be taught. Dáire will introduce the ornament the 'roll' on the accordion.
The jig 'Ship in Full Sail' will be taught in this lesson. Dáire will demonstrate how to subtly change parts of the tune for melodic interest.
This lesson will teach the slide "Dennis Murphy's". Dáire will continue his study of melodic variation.
In this lesson, the hornpipe 'Off To California' will be taught. Dáire will continue his study of melodic variation.
