By the end of this course, you will have thirteen Irish tunes to add to your repertoire plus advanced ornamentation skills. The course has 13 lessons, broken into 3 to 4 tutorials each, where tunes are taught phrase by phrase.
Course Structure
In Flute Progressions, focus is placed on more advanced ornamentation: the crann, the short roll and the bounce. Phrasing and breathing also feature as well as the use of the G# key. It is not a prerequisite to have a keyed flute for this course; in the occasional instance where a key is used, the tutor presents alternative melodic ‘turns’ for those with keyless flutes.
The traditional Irish tunes and corresponding techniques taught are:
Paddy Mill’s Fancy (Breathing and Phrasing)
John Blessing’s Reel (Intonation)
The Gallowglass (Ornamentation: The Roll on A)
Siobhan O’Donnell’s (Ornamentation: The Roll on B, and C ♮taps)
The Derry Horpipe (Intonation)
The Blarney Pilgrim (Ornamentation: Cranns)
Pat Over The Hill (Ornamentation: Long and Short Cranns)
The Dusty Millar (Ornamentation: Cranns)
McFadden’s Handsome Daughter (Challenging Keys: ‘A’ Major)
The Kilmovee Jig (Breathing and Phrasing)
The Ashplant (Ornamentation: The Roll on E. Intonation)
The Scent Of The Bog (Ornamentation: The Bounce)
