As we approach the end of the year, we thought it would be fun to take a look back at the highlights for us here at OAIM. You’re welcome to post your own 2022 highlights and/or milestones in music this year in the comments!

NEW COURSES LAUNCHED IN 2022

50 TUNE CHALLENGE ENDURES!

We kicked off the year with some good old fashioned fun! Tuxedos aplenty, and toasting the new year, OAIM students went all out and we were all in ?. Hard to believe a whole year has already passed.

Klaus (in the thumbnail) was all set for the famous Neusser Schützenfest (Neuss Shooting Festival) in Germany, complete with uniform and duck feather. We think it’s unofficially a beer fest so he fit right in with his fellow beer drinkers, ahem, OAIM students.

The Glass of Beer was understandably followed by Give us a Drink of Water, (maybe with some Alka Seltzer!). It’s made our cut as Klaus douses himself in water at the end! Noriko, a wonderful whistler from Japan, graces the thumbnail.

There were many more fun videos throughout the year. You can find all the videos released so far in our YouTube Playlist. Let us know which ones are your favourite in the comments below! We’d love to hear from you.

☘️ ST PATRICK’S DAY SPECIAL – PLUS YOUTUBE LIVESTREAM

The wonderful Wendy from Wisconsin, U.S.A, graced our thumbnail for our St Patrick’s Day Special, which was a clue to the fun inside. ? Molly Malone was the tune, and we were all ‘crying cockles and mussels, alive, alive oh’ by the end!

MegaTrad entertained us in a special YouTube Livestream for St Patrick’s Day. It was watched by thousands globally, and became a focal point for St Patrick’s Day Celebrations far and wide. OAIM members can re-live the fun anytime as we saved the recording and released it as a wonderful, play-along course called Irish Pub Sessions. (? we plan on doing the same again next year!)

OAIM YouTube SUBSCRIBERS ALMOST AT 100,000!

We currently have over 91,600 subscribers on YouTube, which means it may not be long until we reach the landmark 100,000 subscriber mark. At YouTube that’s a big deal (TBH it’s a big at OAIM too!) as you are awarded a silver plaque in honour of the achievement and enter the YouTube hall of fame… well, not exactly ?. But, if you’re not subscribed to our cool YouTube channel, we’d certainly encourage you to join the fun. You’ll find us here ? https://www.youtube.com/@oaim

POPULAR FACEBOOK POSTS

Strangely, this post went wild when we posted it. The lovely Irish traditional tune On Raglan Road was based on Patrick Kavanagh’s poem of the same name. There were lots of arguments about “I met her first” vs “I saw her first”. The former being the actual lines in the poem and the latter the tune’s variation.

Sage advice here that went down very well with our facebook friends. If you’d enjoy posts like these, be sure to like and follow our facebook page! Yeah, we know Insta is all the rage, call us old fashioned, we’re there too!

This year we launched a Meet the Tutor series on facebook, that proved very popular. Of course we realise how amazing our tutors are, it was a good idea for us to remember that many people may not know the full backgrounds of our amazing teachers!

This post will probably go down in OAIM history! We read such intriguing stories in the comments from this post when it was first published. The worst of which was someone tripping while marching and playing the tin whistle, we’ll leave the rest to your imagination!

Another popular series started this year was our Tune Challenge. The Rattlin’ Bog came out tops among all the tunes that were posted! No surprise there, after all, it is a very well known tune.

Our Meet the Tutor post for Lúnasa’s Kevin Crawford was also wildly popular. Maybe because he’s an Ennis man, or because he’s an amazing musician, either way you’ll be happy to hear we’ve recruited him again for another course (this time on tin whistle!!) due for release on New Year’s Eve.
