Irish Tin Whistle Progressions is designed as a continuation course to Tin Whistle Foundations and assumes a basic proficiency in the tin whistle.
By the end of the course, you’ll have an increased repertoire of 13 Irish tunes, a tasty mix of ornamentation skills to dabble with and a more adept ear to enable you to take your whistling skills even further, maybe even to our Expert Whistle Skills #1 Course? The course has 13 lessons, broken into 3 to 4 tutorials each, where tunes are taught phrase by phrase.
This course continues to build on and consolidate techniques previously taught, whilst taking you up to the next level of ornamentation: with a specific focus on short rolls, bounces and articulation techniques. The repertoire of Irish dance tunes encompasses Jigs, Reels, Hornpipes and the well known Air Inis Oírr.
Throughout the second half of the course, the tutor explores and demonstrates how the recognition of melodic motifs, patterns and arpeggios in the tunes can aid in the process of learning by ear more quickly and efficiently. Why don’t you try out the first tune, Ah Surely, in the sample YouTube lesson above? The notation is available for download below if you need it, plus the mp3 so that you can get familiar with the tune before learning it.
