Irish Piano Accordion Technique is suitable for you if you already have an understanding of the piano accordion and would like to add a lively selection of Jigs, Reels, Hornpipes, Marches and Slip Jigs to your repertoire.
By the end of the course you will have 13 new tunes with wonderful left hand accompaniment skills, a better understanding of Irish style piano accordion playing, some ornamentation and, all in all, a deeper knowledge of the Irish music tradition. The course has 13 lessons, broken into 3 to 4 tutorials each, where tunes are taught phrase by phrase.
Course Structure
Irish Piano Accordion Technique covers basic ornamentation such as cuts, triplets and the use of double stops; while also showing the left hand chord technique for each of the tunes. For your convenience, all the bass notes and chords are marked out in the accompanying sheet music available to download with each lesson. This feature in itself is an excellent learning resource to help you incorporate more left hand accompaniment into your playing. Teaching methods are firmly rooted in the traditional ways of teaching Irish music with tunes broken into short phrases that are played repeatedly. You are prompted when to play along and repeat the phrases, not continuing until each phrase is mastered. This is the beauty of pause/repeat video tutorials.

Mirella Murray grew up in Claddaghduff, near Clifden, Co. Galway, on the north west coast of Connemara. She learned the piano accordion from Mary Finn, a great player from Sligo. She teamed up with fiddler Liz Kane and played and learned a lot of their music together while going through the Fleadh Cheoil competitions. They won the All-Ireland duet in 1995, while Mirella gained the title on the piano accordion that same year. The pair performed together for years and toured in France and North America with Comhaltas. Later Mirella teamed up with the great fiddle player Tola Custy (another OAIM tutor) and played all over Ireland and Europe. Together they recorded the album “Three Sunsets,” which received many rave reviews and was voted top five albums of 2002 by The Irish Times. Read more.
